Woodcutting is a skill that allows players to chop down trees to gain logs, in order to obtain materials for other skills, such as Firemaking and Fletching.
At level 1 woodcutting, use a bronze hatchet.
Alternatively, you can also use an iron hatchet.
At level 6, use a steel hatchet.
At level 21, use a mithril hatchet.
Use an adamant hatchet at level 31.
Use a rune hatchet at level 41.
And use a dragon hatchet at level 61.
Most of these hatchets can be bought from sigmund the merchant.
Guide:
Before heading off, buy each of the three hatchets: Bronze (1 woodcutting), Rune (41 woodcutting), and dragon (61 woodcutting).
Normal and Oak trees can be found south of the bank in Seers Village. Do this from level 1 to level 30.

Next, the most efficient way is to cut Willow Logs from level 30 until you reach level 90. These can be found at multiple locations including Lumbridge and Seers Village, but perhaps the best place to find them is in Draynor village, next to the bank

Follow this quick video tutorial on getting to Ivy, which is the quickest way to reaching 99 woodcutting, and you should start these at level 90 woodcutting.
